While there are still challenges that he faces, Darius does feel better when surrounded by his new friend Sohrab and his family.ĭarius the Great is Not Okay is a fantastically honest look into what it’s like to have depression. While in Iran, Darius’ life changes for the better. His dad also struggles with depression, and despite taking the necessary medication, his dad has lost years to his depressive state. He’s very close with his younger sister, but struggles in his tenuous relationship with his father. This novel focuses on Darius’ depression-not his sexuality.ĭarius loves his family. There’s one little section that suggests Darius’ sexuality, and that’s perfectly okay. While he is openly nerdy, Darius is not yet openly gay. As the two of them bond, Darius begins to open up to Sohrab, forming the first real friendship he’s ever had.ĭarius gets a first friend, and begins to form a better relationship with his grandmother, his mom’s mom. While in Iran, Darius befriend Sohrab, a young man about his age. When his family decides to visit Iran, he feels apprehensive about finally meeting his grandparents-whom he’s only seen on Skype calls over the years. ![]() As a teenager, he’s had it for as long as he can remember. ![]() ![]() Elizabeth has always been miserable because she was never able to get anything she wanted. ![]() She is the epitome of the 18th-century lady who is stuck in her condition: She is courted by many, yet never marries the only man she ever loved. She is too honest and loyal to use someone for revenge, especially because his night with Elizabeth happened a long time ago. ![]() Even if Ross ( Aidan Turner) thinks that Hugh is Demelza’s revenge for his adventure with Elizabeth (and the fact that her baby is probably Ross’s child), Hugh is much more than that for her. Though his presence in the series is short, he is the reason she feels desired and loved, which hasn’t been the case for a long time. Hugh Armitage ( Josh Whitehouse) is mainly a great character for the impact he had on Demelza. ![]() ![]() ![]() As the family starts to bicker, with Barry and Adam fighting over the watch, Beverly realizes that the letter was fake. Near the jazz club is Pops’ favorite diner, where a waitress ( NewsRadio‘s Vicki Lewis) reveals that she and Pops were lovers (or “human Tetris pieces,” as she puts it). ![]() Needless to say, Bev vetoes the site of Pops’ last car accident as a proper place to spread his ashes. ![]() But it turns out the last time Pops was there, he drove into several cars and then some. The next stop is Pops’ favorite jazz club, where the proprietor ( JAG‘s Scott Lawrence) has heard many stories about Bev. But when the poor horse gets injured, Beverly declares that they can’t spread her father’s ashes there. He points out that there’s a horse named Pop Goes the Weasel, which everyone (except Murray) takes as a sign. They start off at “his home away from home,” the racetrack, where one of Pops’ friends ( Becker‘s Saverio Guerra) recognizes Bev from her picture.
